IIAC7 Conference Outing Sunday 20th July: Inis Mór, Aran Islands

Dun Aonghasa

Dun Aonghasa

We are delighted to announce that the Conference Outing will be to Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Islands. At the very edge of Europe, the Aran Islands boast some of the most iconic monuments in Ireland, including the magnificent stone forts of Dún Dúbhcathair, Dún Eoghanachta, and the cliff-edge late Bronze Age citadel of Dún Aonghasa excavated by Claire Cotter of the Discovery Programme. (Claire’s new guide to Dún Aonghasa will be launched during the conference.)

At the other end of the spectrum are ecclesiastical remains, including the famous Seacht d’Teampaill (Seven Churches) at Cill Éinne, the 11th century Teampall Bheanáin, Mainistir Chiaráin, and Port na Mainistreach. Árainn is also famous for its flora, fauna and geology, not to mention spectacular cliffs and seascapes.
